My Best Dress

I started this piece by first dying white velvet in Arashi Shibori, then cut it up and bonded it to a base fabric. I then free-machined lots of small pieces in many colours and machined them in a pattern onto the velvet. Metallic thread was worked over this; l also wrapped some wooden rings with yarn and hand stitched them onto the design. The bottom was cut away and the edges worked in a machine pattern, again with metallic threads. The straps were made from pieces of fme and joined. The pole for hanging was also wrapped in fme, yarn, threads and wool.
